The Trojárová site: a forest stream

Environmental principles

Environmental solutions must be part of the project from the start.

Every project that may affect the landscape should start with the question: what do we need to protect here?

At Trojárová, the answer is meant to be part of the geological exploration, the expert studies and the technical design. We follow the principle: prevent impacts, minimise unavoidable impacts and, once the work is finished, restore the affected sites to the extent required by the conditions of the permits issued.

  1. Prevent

Avoid impacts as the first priority.

  2. Minimise

Where they cannot be avoided, reduce them.

  3. Restore

Once the work is finished, restore the affected sites to the extent required by the conditions of the permits issued.

Water: understand, protect and monitor

Knowledge of surface water and groundwater is one of the foundations of further assessment. We need to understand its quality, its flow and how the waters are connected.

The working environmental concept envisages the highest technically feasible recycling of process water, its controlled treatment and separate management of the individual water streams. The basic principle is to prevent any uncontrolled discharge of process or mine water.

Historical burdens: assess first, then propose a solution

Historical mining left mine workings, affected waters, waste rock heaps and tailings ponds in the region. Their condition needs expert investigation and must be separated from any future impacts of the project.

We want to examine how the future Trojárová infrastructure could help treat selected historically affected mine waters and help stabilise, remediate or appropriately process historical materials.

The scope, effectiveness and feasibility of any remediation must be confirmed by further studies. The fact that we want to examine these options does not mean that we are assuming responsibility for existing environmental burdens that arose before the project began.

Cooperation with the Technical University of Košice

The memorandum of cooperation concluded by Military Metals Corp. covers metallurgical testing, analytical support in designing antimony processing methods and the involvement of research and students.
